DIY Natural Hair Spray

The real reason I wanted to try this recipe was because I needed hairspray and I'm to cheap frugal to buy some. It helps that this recipe is "green" since it contains no harsh chemicals, won't harm the environment, creates no waste (since I use a reusable bottle), and helps me rely less on commercial products. Also, this recipe is so easy and you have the ingredients right in your pantry. This stuff really works, really holds, and is really cheap. What else could you ask for?

DIY Hairspray:
Ingredients:
1 cup water
1.5 Tbs sugar
small spray bottle

Directions:
Place water in a pot and boil. Once boiling turn off heat and add sugar. Stir to dissolve. Let cool and place in spray bottle with fine mister.

To use: Spray bottle should be on its finest mist. Lightly spray a thin coat of hairspray on hair once dry you can reapply. Warning: don't just go crazy with it or else you will end up with a wet head. Do apply in very thin coats.

Give it a try! You have nothing to lose and you may just be presently surprised!

  1. I will try this!
Just a bit worried, won't my 'nectarhead' attract the bees?

    1. Haha I hope not! I haven't tried this during the summer yet but my hair doesn't smell like sugar or anything. I guess we will have to find out!

  2. Wow! What a great recipe! I have given up on most things commercial as far as beauty products - you read one book and it all goes downhill from there :-) I might have to try this! I don't need hairspray all that often, but being able to use it once in a while would be great. I'm not really concerned with bees...more mosquitoes and black flies :-)

    1. Totally agree except mine was documentaries haha. I don't use it that often either but it was getting annoying that when I wanted and needed it I never have any on hand. Mosquitos could be a problem here to but I hear if you rub basil leaves on you it acts as a natural repellent!

  5. I will definitely have to try this. I don't buy hairspray, but sometimes I really need it. Instead I walk around with "crazy hair."

  6. Awesome! I rarely use hairspray and never want to buy it for the rare occasion where I need it.

My first thought was like someone else commented, that I would be attracting bugs... I guess I'll have to find out! Thanks for sharing.
