I love love love Mineral Veil! Not going to lie I don't really ever purchase makeup because my mom sells it and she is sooo kind to buy it for me! For a while I started buying Bare minerals and I love it, but it is really expensive. I stopped using the foundation but was still using the amazing Mineral Veil (still very expensive). Since I am in grad school and really only living on my husbands salary plus a little bit extra from a part time waitressing job it just doesn't fit into the budget.
The good news is you can make it for super cheap! With things you already have and it works just as well as the real stuff! If you read the ingredients on your Mineral Veil you will find that the main ingredient is cornstarch! Yep seriously!
Bare Minerals costs about $20.00…. Our homemade version $.05
Ingredients
1 1/2 Tablespoons cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon powder foundation (crushed up finely)
Directions: Mix together and store in an old loose powder container, jar, or tin.
Apply a small amount to a powder brush tapping off any extra. Apply to the face and be amazed! I like to apply a little more to places that are extra oily like my forehead or nose.
Side note: its not going to be a perfect match to your skin and will be much lighter.
Benefits of using this finishing powder
- Gives you that finished looked
- Absorbs oil so you won't get that old sweaty makeup look
- Minimizes fine lines and pores
- Lucky for you since your making this you can make it whatever your skin color is for a perfect match!
- Cheap!
Isn't that super easy and super frugal? Kind of bummed I have wasted so much money on buying it over the last few years! O well at least I know I will be saving a ton more! Hope you love this as much as I do!

I want to try this with arrowroot starch instead of corn. What kind of foundation did you use?
ReplyDeleteI bet that would work too! I used a mineral pressed powder foundation I got from my mom that was broken! Really any powder foundation should work!
DeleteHow about using cocoa powder to tint it so it looks more like your skin tone? Great idea and I will use the arrowroot to mix it up! Love your blog and great projects!
ReplyDeleteThats a good idea it may even be more like a bronzer if you add more than usual. Luckily you can test it out and it will barely cost you an!ything! Thanks for the encouragement Cyndi! Come back soon
DeleteI may have to check try this. I use E.L.F. brand. It's around $20 for concealer, foundation and finishing powder. It works great.
ReplyDeleteHi! I was just wondering if you have ever made any mineral blush before. I too use Bare Minerals, but not the foundation, only the blush and the veil. Do you have any ideas or suggestions for making the blush? Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHey Araceli I have never made mineral blush! Im not sure how that could be done. I assume there are some blush colored minerals that you could purchase somewhere online! I wish I could be more helpful!
DeleteHey Amy, Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! I'll do some research to see what I can find out there. If I find anything good, I'll come back and share. Happy Holidays!!
DeleteI read that you can use beet powder for the blush, hope it helps
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I will certainly look into it.
