Yesterday I was sick all day and progressively just kept getting worse. Luckily I didn't have much to do so it was ok. But today is a different story! My body is so funny and is so sensitive. I have not been eating my best lately which for me means automatic sickness. So here are some things I do to get over a cold quicker…
Eat healthy: fruits and vegetables can help prevent sickness by protecting your ability to fight off infections and building up your immunity.
Take vitamins: Your immunity is more likely to be down when you are not getting enough vitamins and minerals. Sometimes you can't get enough through foods so supplement it with vitamins.
Elderberry syrup: I use this to help fight off colds and allergies!View my post all about elderberry syrup, its benefits, and how to make it here
Herbal tea with honey and lemon: My favorite is Sleepy Time Tea with the bear on it :). It is a soothing chamomile tea. Local honey is a natural anti-bacterial, soothes sore throats, reduces cough, has lots of vitamins and minerals, and reduces allergies. Lemon is also an natural anti-bacterial and contain vitamin c which helps support a healthy immune system.
Long hot showers: Not only is this very relaxing, but also the steam can help open up your lungs and drain your sinuses.
Essential oils: Eucalyptus, lemon, peppermint (don't use on or near babies), lavender, tea tree, and rosemary (do not use when pregnant or have high blood pressure or epilepsy) essential oil all have de-congestive properties and also help fight infections.
Getting lots of sleep and reducing stress: When you are not getting enough sleep or are stress out you body's ability to defend against illnesses are greatly reduced. So get lots of zzzzs and try to reduce the amount of stress you face.

Thanks Ana! I appreciate it! I will definitely come visit
DeleteGreat ideas! I make sure to get plenty of veggies, too, if I'm feeling sick. The other day I had a sore throat and felt something coming on, so I steeped some ginger root in water with honey and it cleared it right up!

Ginger is a good idea too! I know it helps if your having stomach issues never thought about it when you have a cold! Thanks for the advice and coming by!
DeleteGreat ideas I do all those things too. I read a recipe in Natural Health Mag. that involved steeping a bit of grated ginger, lemon, and a drop of sweetner. Let it steep for 30 minutes then drink. It has worked charms when I have felt a cold coming on. Love the tea mug by the way.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great idea and probably super yummy! Thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeleteThis is a great list! I just repinned it since it's not something I need right now, but is something I would want to have on hand when people are sick later on down the road!
